September was a crazy month but made it through ok!
Had 4 business trips (4 overnights) and laser eye clean up but finished up ok!
On the good side got to see a bunch of friends, family has been great, and found a new church, and attended an incredible Entrepreneurship conference! My son and daughter both started new jobs!
Recently my mind has been cloudy - realized I was doing too much with my day job, travel, Beachbody/ Integrative Nutrition biz, entrepreneurship for the future. Fortunately plans fell through for the weekend (well part fell through and part I decided not to go for retreat) !
So my 3 goals for the month of sept
- Sign up and take crew class
(Decided to wait until the spring when the weather is nicer)
- Get
on to regular workout routine that energizes me!
(TOUGH time of this - so annoyed at self that I couldn't get on track - but realize have to be less kicking self and encouraging as I get back)
- Solidify wellness as part
of career
(Beachbody/IIN ) Health - Balance
(Entrepreneurship) Long term - ehealth - digital health through corporate decide mission
- (I'll add a 4th - blog once a week) :)
(Oh well once a month)
So... my goals for October
- Regular workouts - healthy and enjoy!
- Wellness approach
- focus on restarting, starting, balance, growth, joy, love/passion, peace/rest, integration!
:) 2 simple and sweet and doable!

Where did the time go?
Hard to believe it's already September. Like most of us September heralds new beginnings. I think we never outgrow that back to school feeling, anticipating what new learnings are in store for us. The only difference as adults we need to open ourselves up to new learnings!
Life has a funny way of teaching us lessons, even if we don't sign up for it. Sometimes the lessons are nudges, other time major life changing jolts.
In March while on a Habitat for Humanity mission group in NOLA, I detached both my retina and macula and lost vision in 1 eye (seeing only black - with a very small area of vision). I was able to fly home to Boston and had surgery at Mass Eye and Ear where they reattached both retina and macula. My vision can now be corrected to 20/40! Recovery was 5 weeks of face down bed rest. People asked if I went stir crazy, but knowing that following dr orders was 50% of recovery success, I had no problem.
I definitely have a new outlook on things. During my recovery I focused on all I had to be grateful for - kids taking care of me, short term disability at work, my faith, ipod/iphone (portal to the outside world - I couldn't use a laptop as it was too big), the best drs in the world.
The song "I can see clearly now" was my mantra!
In April I was given the green light to workout again but I just couldn't get in the groove - I had about 5 starts and stops April - August... Having worked out regular for the majority of the last 23 years this was something new. I was also travelling for work a lot.
In May/June I did a 21 day reset - was WONDERFUL. It was all home cooking and after 4 days vegan. Our fridge was packed with healthy produce. Even now 3 months later, I'm 100% off butter, virtually off wheat, and eat A LOT more veggies. I feel so much better when eating lots of veggies.
We had a wonderful trip to Zion/Bryce national parks! Beautiful country. In August on a work outing, I discovered rowing crew and fell in love with the peace of the charles river, the great overall body workout. My schedule has been too hectic to take a class but I'm GOING to sign up today for 3 weeks at the end of the month! Been connecting with old/ new friends, which has been wonderful!
I am now a certified health coach. Figuring out how to combine my passion for health/fitness with my beachbody, health coaching and day job. I'm going to an entrepreneur workshop this week - oh yes after a day trip to Chicago!

Yay! Starting Week 4
I absolutely Love Les Mill pump! Gorgeous instructors with wonderful accents UK, New Zealand, Sweden. I've gone to beginner level weights - nothing more than 5 lbs on the barbells. The one time I tried 10lbs for squats my achillese started hurting.
So... I went back to 5lbs. YESTERDAY for the 1st time I did 10 lbs on the barbells for Legs/Backs and Squats. It felt great and today I had that needing to stretch after a good workout feeling Yay!
I'm loving the walks too!
So now I think I can begin loosing some of the 15 lbs I've gained in the last 2 1/2 years! One day at a time!
PROGRESS!
Ok doing a little Brazil But lift tonight~ (It's suppose to be a day off so I'll go easy!)

Ready to Start
Yay!! I got realeased from PT for achillese tendonitis! So yesterday I started the Les Mils Pump.
I took before pics - Yikes! What a change! I'm happy now.. and kinda like having a lot more balance in my life so even though I've got 15 extra lbs in the last 2 years... I feel in a very good place.
So much to be grateful for - spirituality is key to everything and knowing that true happiness comes from within and being alligned with Source/Spirit ... rather than basing it on outside events. Thats probably a bit heavy for this fitness/health blog but so critical to happiness - I just couldn't omit it.
2012 for me is going to be a continuation of 2011 (which was great year as was 2010)... continue to focus on growth, balance, having a sense of wonder, appreciating the magnificence of what is, prosperity,
health (all levels), being a peacemaker in every way (this is very different than peacekeeper!!),
My achillese heal (no pun intended - but it is interesting how that has been my injury) is to be fully open to give and receive love! Though that's in a different blog!
So.... Measurements taken check, Befor pics taken check, fitness plan decided check.
Today is a rest day but since I have the day off am going for a brisk (its 14 degrees) walk! Gotta go off to REI and buy a hat first!
Once I reach 30 days - I'll post the difference in inches.
Goals - remain injury free, Love my workouts, eat healthy, Lose 4 lbs! Have fun!

New Year
Yay! Making progress on PT! It was amazingly warm on New Years. 51 and sunny! Went for a walk including a steep hill! Yay progress! Doing light weights many reps.
While my calorie burn is lower, I'm focusing a lot on healthy eating. Funny as part of IIN, the year long program I'm in there is a lot of talk about bio individuality, what food is best for me is not what is best for you. What is so ironic is all the guides say how there's is best!
So what I want to do is get the best from all them (and of course what works for me)... It's almost like saying to the experts 1. "What can you ALL agree on". Anything you can't agree on is based on bio individuality 2. For Every "DON'T eat" have a "DO EAT"
----
1. Eat whole foods. I like the saying if you can't pronounce the ingredients then don't eat it.
2. Drink lots of water. Avoid soda and sugary drinks.
3. Eats lots of veggies and focus on different colors! It looks great and so good to get a full balance. Including greens, mushroom, onion
4. Eat fruit - nature’s candy. Avoid refined sugar!
All debatable - thus based on bio individuality!
1. Meat
2. Fish
3. Eggs
4. Legumes
5. Soy
6. Dairy
7. Whole grains
___
So for now I'm basically doing an anti-inflammatory diet (not as in diet but eating plan)

So for now I'm basically doing an anti-inflammatory diet (not as in diet but eating plan)
· LOTS of veggies, fruit,
· Fish (2-6 x week), Other protein (I'm having poultry) - 2x week
· Healthy fats (avocado)
· Whole grains (quinoa, brown rice, sprouted tortillas, barley)
This week’s discovery· Ginger tea! Delisch . Grate or chop up the ginger and boil then simmer for 10 mins. They recommend adding agave. I had just as is
Recipe of the week
An earthy, turmeric, mustard seed spiked lentil soup. I switched up barley for the brown rice and kale for the spinach! Def on the to be made again list! ♥ 101 cookbooks!
__
Feel better! Took my starting weight etc. Funny I've gained 15 lbs over the last 2 plus years, less activity, hormones. In a way I like being less lean - no more gaunt looks but would like to not have to buy new clothes! Goal is to prob loose 12 lbs but in a HEALTHY way!
Ok time for some shakeology - still on a pumpkin kick ! There must be some ingredient I need. For the record. I dont have shakeology daily 3 or 4 days a week!
....
Have a great week! Happy 2012!
