Injuries - Embracing the forced rest

Well here it goes!  I've been "thinking" about doing a blog for the longest time.   Funny thing is in most things I have an idea and go for it!   Not so this.

Yesterday, a good friend asked me why I haven't done the blog and I realized it was how vulnerable this makes me feel.   I've learned so much from this injury and want to share it with others, so here it goes!
A little bit about me.  First and foremost I'm a Mom. My daughter is finishing up her Masters in special ed this week and my son graduated from college in June.   I'm blessed, thanks to the economy they are living at home.  I feel I got extra bonus years!    I'm a Program Manager professionally,  have been in software and database marketing for close to 30 years!  My goal is to get into corporate wellness.   I believe I can help the most people maintain/regain healthy lifesytles this way!  My spiritual life is very important to me.   My favorites are Deepak Chopra, Wayne Dyer,  Marianne Williamson, and Michael Beckwith.   My morning meditation sets the tone for the day.   I'm a recovering Type A, still have those tendencies but am much more centered and calmer (though not everyone agrees).  Definetely there is a lot less focus on busyness.

I'm passionate about health/fitness.   Love being outdoors, hiking, walking in the woods, stand up paddling, snowshoeing.  I 'm in the middle of IIN, a  year long course in nutrition.  Love it!    I've worked out intensly since 1989...   My weight has always been pretty good.

I started having achillese pain about 1 1/2  - 2 years ago... I didn't give into the pain... you know no pain no gain... I was 'stronger ' that any pain... if I didnt focus on it.. it would go away.    Last monthy during my annual exam, my PCP dr said to go to an orthopedist.  He  quickly diagnosed me with acute achillese tendonitis!   I'm going into week 4 of PT and feel so much better!

Embracing  this injury, since it  forced me to
-  focus on other things than fitness
-  focus on healthy nutrition
-  rest

Since I was always in pretty good shape, I didn't truely understand what others were going through...  now I know 1st hand.

So as I get back into shape,  I'm going to keep this blog,  to show what works, what doesn't work... Total transparency!
I did before pics and YIKES!  on the outside a huge difference from my lean self - well 15 lbs what did I expect!
As I get back I'm going to do it differently
-  Will LISTEN to my body if I experience pain
-  Will REST - 1 or 2 days a week
-   Will continue to focus on EATING HEALTHY!
        LOTS of veggies, protein, fruit
-   Will KEEP my balance - on spiritual, meditation
   - Will GET OUTSIDE in addition to just working out inside
      -  The scale and how things fit is only 1 part of my overall Wellness :)
